| I have to confess that drawing pictures is what I enjoy most. From 1950 to 1990 I devoted most of my time to producing katazome (stencil-dyed) pictures. Although the process is quite different, the results were pictures in their own way. My first picture book "Magic of Words" is in fact illustrated with katazome. I think that my experience with katazome has made a rich contribution to the evolution of my own style of drawing which somehow reflects the unique katazome character. It is not easy to explain but I hope that looking at my work you will get some inkling of what I am trying to say. |
